A Glade of Heaven
Dutch Harbor, AK – August 2011 |
The Aleutian summer isn't much of a summer. Marked with nearly constant cloud cover the sun doesn't shine much. Fog and mist are the rule more than the exception and on the rare occurrence the sun decides to show its face, it deceives like it does in wintertime: it shows itself off as brilliant and cold and worthless. It's there as a tease – not to actually comfort you. Yet, on occasion, the clouds unfurl themselves to let some of the ineffective beams illuminate the verdant surface of these magnificent and remote volcanic islands. On this occasion it feels like a small glade of another world has been dolloped onto earth for just a minute and you're one of the blessed few to see this moment.
Awesome picture, and what a neat description....You should be a writer!
