Quay on the Tonlé Sap: Part 1

untitled
Sisowath Quay, Phnom Penh – December 2012
The Quay (pronounced "key") is one of the hotspots for nightlife in Phnom Penh.  Khmer groups of all ages get together on the waterfront to play sports, do aerobic dancing (sometimes to the tune of Gangnam Style) and go for walks hand in hand.  For the more convivial crowd, there are no shortages of restaurants, bars and nightclubs where lights, music, cocktails and dancing carry on far far into the night.

For many young people the world-over, confidence in their generation's future teeters; it's enough to furrow a brow and bury the cheery optimism of youth.  But alas, for an evening they can dance, play and ride off and at once both make the world disappear and come to life in brilliant colors.
